With the current release of the Palm Pixi, this Smartphone has a wide range of features constituting Palm a leading participant in the industry. Based along the brand-new WebOS program, the Palm Pixi is small and hard-hitting in conception and is set to be published sometime this yr. Published in Q1 of this year the WebOS is a brand-new Smartphone platform that’s progressive. It was developed by Linux and showcased by Palm, which allows users a special browsing experience with meaningful on-line social network and Web 2.0 integration.
The dictionary definition of a pixie is: fairies that are fairly mischievous – This smartly sums up this Palm Pixi Smartphone with its rubberized elfin-like outside and subtle interior; slightly remindful of a child’s imagination, engaged with an lasting wonderland of magic and revere.
Characteristics include a full keyboard and a display screen size of 2.63 inches. Watching the menus and typing comes natural given the screen size and way the mobile phone lays out. Although a touch smaller than the Pre, the Pixi is much easier to use. The keyboard feel more solid and the lighting of the phone compensates for the size. The Pixi is not for someone with huge hands as it is a tad small like most phones but perfect for the average user.
As a trimmed down version of the Palm Pre, the Palm Pixi maintains the features of the WebOS but is lighter and considered more functional.
An added bonus for Pre upgraders is that the Palm Pixi uses the same battery pack, so both Smartphone’s can swap batteries, if you are so inclined. Some say that the Pixi battery is less powerful than that of the Pre, based on the battery usage of the phones it may be possible but marginal differences at best. The Palm Pixi comes with a 2 megapixel camera with flash and storage space of an impressive 8 gigabytes. The low megapixels of the phone is done purposely to keep it centered around instant messaging similar to that of the Blackberry line of phones.
A major setback to the Palm Pixi is the lack of Wifi support and fuctionality which can be a big deal a most phones have that basic feature. On the flip side it makes up for it with the amount of software support for mainstream apps such as Facebook, LinkedIn and more. The five back covers designed by artists are included with the phone to try and appeal to the younger generation and provide a bonus that other smartphones don’t provide.
We are waiting for the official suggested price for the Palm Pixi but we believe it will be competitively priced at around $100.
